Day 1
Our guests are greeted by a Thabo Africa representative upon arrival at Maun Airport for a warm welcome to Maun and transition to a lodge (accommodation at the lodge is at your own expense), where, over refreshments, a briefing will be given outlining the trip in depth, camping procedures during the trip, and related safety aspects of the safari, before leaving for the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
Day 2
Get up early, shower, and have breakfast before going to the CKGR. During a stopover, you will be served a packed lunch and a chance to stretch your legs. After lunch, continue your journey to CKGR. Go through the park and reach the campsite. When you arrive at the camp, you will be greeted by the staff, who will guide you to your tents. After a while, you will go for a nap. After a nap, have tea and resume your afternoon safari inside the park. Return to the camp after the afternoon game drive, enjoy a new shower, and then dinner will be served. The last guest will determine bedtime.
Day 3
Early in the morning, take a shower and breakfast before continuing your game drive inside the park. Return to the camp. After a brief break, you’ll have lunch and then a nap. After a short nap, have high tea before returning to the park for an afternoon game drive. After your afternoon game trip, return to the camp for a refreshing shower before dinner is served. The last guest will decide when it is time to go to bed.
Day 4
The day starts with a hot shower from a shower bucket, breakfast, and a drive to Makgadikgadi. You can pass the gate and then go on your safari before you arrive at the campsite. You’ll be shown your tents as you arrive at your camping spot, and then you’ll have lunch before taking a nap. You will have high tea before beginning your afternoon activity, a game safari inside the park to experience the incredible wildlife. Return to camp, take a shower, and then eat dinner. The last guest will decide when it is time to go to bed.
Day 5
After a brief shower and breakfast, take a short game drive inside Makgadikgadi Park before exiting via the northern gate. From Maun to Nata, you’ll be on a main road. After a 30-minute drive north, you’ll arrive at the Nxai Park entrance, where you’ll go on a game drive before you reach the camping spot. You will have lunch upon arrival and then take a nap. After high tea, you’ll continue your game drive safari via Nxai Park, where you’ll see incredible scenery and wildlife. After returning from your afternoon activity, you’ll shower and eat dinner later that evening. The last guest will decide when it is time to go to bed.
Day 6
Your professional guide will meet you at the Mokoro station in a 4WD open-sided safari vehicle after an hour-long drive. You’ll travel along the Delta’s many waterways, searching for wildlife and bird species. As you camp on an island selected by your guide, there are no amenities. Upon arrival, your guide will take you on a game walk where you can see spectacular scenery and hear birdsong, followed by lunch. It would help to nap in camp after lunch to escape the mid-day sun. A 2.4m x 2.4m dome tent with a soft bedroll and linen will be your home away from home.
Wait before sunset for the spectacular color variations that delight guests. Your guide will light a fire for you at night, and a cook will prepare your meals. Since there is no cover, bring a hat and sunscreen.
Day 7
For those curious, an early morning game walk will be open, with participants returning to the camp in time to plan and enjoy breakfast.
After breakfast or lunch, return to the mokoros to admire the channels and the complex veins of waterways that link the lagoons, or go for a guided bush walk before lunch or snacks.
The guides will take their guests in mokoros to a secure place where they can swim in the Okavango Delta’s waters in the afternoon; afterward, participants can use the gnashing to pole a mokoro.
Take the time to rest and take in the scenery.
We will take a break and unwind in the tent after the bush walk, then refresh and eat dinner under the Milky Way’s starlit sky. At the same time, the guides and polers amuse us with local dances demonstrating animal tracking skills and gathering ways for traditional medicinal uses.
Guests interested in astronomy will be introduced to one of the world’s largest sets of stars before returning to their warm tents for the night and drifting off to the sounds of the wild.
Day 8
After a shower and tea, depart from a Mokoro station in the Okavango Delta for the Moremi Game Reserve’s South Gate. The trip to South Gate usually takes under two hours if you don’t stop for game sightings.
While the Professional Guide attends to the appropriate paperwork for admission into the reserve upon arrival at South Gate, refreshments will be served during this short break. The journey continues through the Moremi Game Reserve, with stops for game watching along the way, until the designated camping ground is reached, approximately two hours from South Gate.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch followed by a relaxing time during which the skilled guide will give a short briefing about the reserve and other safari material before embarking on an afternoon game drive that may include Maya Pans, the Little Baobab forest, and Jessie’s Pools for sunset at around 1530 hours.
Return to camp for pre-dinner refreshments, eat dinner under the stars, and then unwind around a roaring campfire while listening to the hyenas’ and lions’ calls before retiring for the night.
Day 9
After an early morning shower and a light breakfast with plenty of tea and coffee, we go on a brief game drive of around -+2 hours before returning to the camp just before sunrise. We then leave camp and travel to Savuti. There will be a packed lunch served on board.
Arrive at the Savuti campsite and take a nap. After a rejuvenating nap, enjoy high tea before returning to the park for another game drive. Return to the camp, shower, and then eat dinner. The last guest determines that it is time to go to bed.
Overnight camping in Savuti is a true wilderness experience, with no walls, where one can spend an exhilarating night after dinner listening to the night sounds of the animals and maybe having close encounters with them in the camp.
Day 10
Early morning wake-up call, shower, and breakfast before heading out on a morning game drive to resume our discovery of Savuti’s various areas. Return to the camp for lunch before taking a nap. After a nap, it’s time for high tea before heading out for an afternoon game trip. Return from your afternoon activity, shower, and then eat dinner.
Day 11
After a shower and breakfast, go on a long game drive from Savuti to Kasane, where you will be met and transferred to the airport to proceed with your other travel plans.
At the airport, shake hands and say farewell.
